Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Cut up fresh pineapple, and set the core aside.
  2. To a 2 quart saucepan, add water and sugar, and stir to combine. Then add the pineapple core. Turn on medium heat, bring to a boil, stirring continuously until the sugar is dissolved. Boil uncovered for 5 minutes, using tongs to turn the core over every minute or so. Remove from heat, discard the pineapple core, and let syrup cool to room temperature (about 30 minutes).
  3. Pour into a measuring cup, and use for my Fresh Pineapple Sorbet recipe, or pour syrup directly into an airtight glass container or mason jar (12 ounce). Store refrigerated for up to 5 days.

Notes

  1. This is a great recipe to make when you are cutting up a fresh pineapple for snacking, or making other recipes (like my Fresh Pineapple Sorbet). Instead of throwing away the pineapple core (which is basically inedible), use the core to make this delicious Pineapple Simple Syrup! It infuses a lovely tropical flavor to plain simple syrup.
  2. You can strain this syrup if you like (for drinks or cocktails), but it’s not really necessary if using it for dessert recipes.
  3. Enjoy this Pineapple Simple Syrup in mocktail, cocktail, or dessert recipes, like my Fresh Pineapple Sorbet, or my Fresh Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita (recipe coming soon).
  4. Recipe can be made ahead of time.
  5. Makes about 16 servings (1 cup) - 1 tablespoon per serving.

Step by Step Instructions

PREPARATION

Organize all your tools and ingredients before you begin. Getting all your ingredients in one place at the beginning will shorten your prep time.

Note: Lemon is optional. I only add lemon juice if I’m going to add it to my Fresh Pineapple Sorbet recipe.

STEP 1

Cut up 1 fresh ripe pineapple (see Note below), and set the core aside.

Note: This is a great recipe to make when you are cutting up a fresh pineapple for snacking, or making other recipes (like my Fresh Pineapple Sorbet). Instead of throwing away the pineapple core (which is tough to chew), use the core to make this delicious Pineapple Simple Syrup! It infuses a lovely tropical flavor to plain simple syrup.

STEP 2

To a 2 quart saucepan, add 1 cup filtered water, and 1 cup granulated sugar, and stir to combine.

STEP 3

Pour into a measuring cup (see Note below), and use for my Fresh Pineapple Sorbet recipe, or pour syrup directly into an airtight glass container or mason jar (12 ounce), and use for other recipes.

Note: You can strain this syrup if you like (for drinks or cocktails), but it’s not really necessary if using for dessert recipes.

SERVING & STORAGE

Store refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Enjoy this Pineapple Simple Syrup in mocktail, cocktail, or dessert recipes, like my Fresh Pineapple Sorbet, or my Fresh Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita (recipe coming soon).

Notes:

  1. Recipe can be made ahead of time.

  2. Makes about 8 servings (1 cup). 1 tablespoon per serving.

How to Make this Unique Pineapple Simple Syrup!

Blog Comments & Tips

Bright & delicate pineapple flavor!

It’s always fun to experiment with different flavors in simple syrup, and this Pineapple Simple Syrup has a lovely and delicate flavor that will enhance any tropical drink or dessert recipe.

This Pineapple Simple Syrup is perfect for so many tropical recipes, and adds that extra punch of pineapple flavor without overpowering your drinks or desserts. Try it in mocktails, or cocktails like my Fresh Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita (recipe coming soon). This Pineapple Simple Syrup really boosts the flavor in my Fresh Pineapple Sorbet recipe!

Fresh cut pineapple is so delicious, and it’s a waste to throw out the core. Most people think it’s too hard to eat, but did you know that it is a great source of vitamin C, and has a high concentration of Bromelain?

We all know about the health benefits of vitamin C, which is known to boost our immunity, but I was surprised to find out that the properties in Bromelain may improve heart health and assist in reducing mucus production for those who suffer from asthma!

How do you ensure the best results from this recipe?

My 3 tips to making this Pineapple Simple Syrup:

  1. Use a fresh organic pineapple that is ripe. The ripe fruit will add more sweetness and flavor to this syrup.

  2. Don’t discard the pineapple fruit! Use it in recipes like my Fresh Pineapple Sorbet, or freeze it for smoothies. You can also add it to yogurt, or in my Fresh Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita (recipe coming soon).

  3. Be sure to stir continuously until the sugar is dissolved. Once boiling, make sure the heat is on medium, and let it boil without stirring. If it’s too high, the water will evaporate and you’ll be left with less syrup.

Footnote: Remember to stir continuously so the sugar doesn’t stick, and fully dissolves before coming to a boil.
