QUICK HONEY SIMPLE SYRUP

QUICK HONEY SIMPLE SYRUP

This Quick Honey Simple Syrup is delicious in cocktails, or drizzled on yogurt, pancakes, or waffles. This 2 ingredient recipe for simple syrup takes only minutes to prepare. It’s a great make ahead recipe when you are entertaining, dissolves easily in both cold or hot drinks, and adds a special flavor to lemonade or iced tea.
Cooking Time: 6 MinTotal Time: 6 Min

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Add honey and water to a nonstick saucepan (1 quart). On medium heat, stir frequently with a silicone spatula until honey is dissolved. Bring to a simmer (about 5 minutes), and simmer for 1 minute while stirring. Remove from heat, and set aside to cool.
  2. Once completely cooled, transfer to an airtight glass container (see Note #2), and refrigerate until ready to use. Enjoy in cold or hot drinks. It adds a special flavor to lemonade or iced tea. Perfect for cocktails, and delicious in my Cider In The Rye Cocktail.

Notes

  1. Use liquid honey for this recipe (I don’t recommend using creamed honey).
  2. I prefer storing this honey simple syrup in these 16 ounce glass bottles with weighted pourers, as these bottles make it very easy to pour without spilling. Although these bottles are not airtight, the sealed bottle neck and weighted pourer keep everything fresh. If you want an airtight container, then I recommend using a 16 ounce mason jar
  3. Recipe can be made ahead.
  4. Can be stored refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 1 month.
  5. Makes about 2 cups (32 servings - 1 tablespoon each).

How to Make Quick Honey Simple Syrup!

Blog Comments & Tips

Keep this simple syrup recipe on hand!

I love making simple syrups! They take no effort, really enhance my recipes, and dissolve quickly in hot or cold drinks. A great make ahead recipe when you are entertaining, this Quick Honey Simple Syrup is especially delicious in cocktails, like my Cider In The Rye Cocktail. It’s absolutely wonderful with lemonade or iced tea, but equally yummy when drizzled on yogurt, pancakes, or waffles.

This Quick Honey Simple Syrup is really versatile. Depending on the type of honey you use (i.e., clover or orange blossom), it will impart either floral or citrus notes to your recipe. Keep this in mind when you are using this honey simple syrup for cocktails or drinks, as it can enhance or slightly change the overall flavor of your drink.

For example, orange blossom honey adds lovely citrusy notes to your cocktails. If using honey that has been locally harvested to your region, it may add notes of lavender, or other floral or herby notes to your drink.

How do you ensure the best results from this recipe?

My 4 tips to making a Quick Honey Simple Syrup:

  1. Use good quality honey. Locally sourced honey is great, but I used Trader Joe’s multi-floral & clover honey, which flavor blends well with many drink recipes.

  2. Use filtered water, as you don’t want the minerals or chemicals used in tap water to affect the taste of this simple syrup.

  3. Stir frequently so the honey doesn’t stick and burn on the bottom of your pan.

  4. Adjust the amount of water and honey according to your needs. You may not need 2 cups, and you don’t want this delicious syrup to go to waste. It’s easy to adjust this 1:1 recipe up or down, as needed (but I wouldn’t suggest making any less than ¼ cup of honey + water at a time).
