TROPICAL DRAGON FRUIT SMOOTHIE (Non-Dairy)

My Tropical Dragon Fruit Smoothie is filled with fresh and fruity ingredients. Pink pitaya (dragon fruit) gives this smoothie it's gorgeous color, but it's fresh pineapple, banana, and coconut milk that give this non-dairy drink its sweetness and tropical flavor. This easy 5-ingredient recipe can be made in less than 5 minutes!
Prep Time: 5 MinTotal Time: 5 Min

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. To a high speed blender cup (see Note #2), add pineapple, dragon fruit, banana, coconut milk, cinnamon, and ice cubes (adjust amount based on whether using fresh or frozen fruit). Cover, secure lid, and blend until smooth (about 45 to 60 seconds).
  2. Pour into a tall 20 ounce glass (or two 10 ounce glasses), serve immediately, and enjoy!

Notes

  1. If using all fresh fruit (i.e. no frozen fruit), use 1 cup ice cubes instead. If using all frozen fruit (i.e., frozen banana, pineapple, and dragon fruit, use only ¼ to ½ cup ice cubes. If it's too thick, add a little more coconut milk (about 2 tablespoons at a time).
  2. Both the NutriBullet high speed blender and the Vitamix high-speed blender work extremely well for this recipe. If you don’t have a high speed blender, you can use a regular blender, but it may take longer to blend. Also, it may not make the smoothie as creamy in texture as a high speed blender.
  3. For more recipe variations, visit the Prep My Recipe section in the Blog Comments & Tips for this recipe on the website.
  4. Makes one 16 ounce serving.

A naturally sweet & delicious smoothie!

If you're looking for a delicious, dairy-free way to liven up your morning or afternoon snack time, then my non-dairy Tropical Dragon Fruit Smoothie is the perfect recipe! This vibrant smoothie gets its beautiful color from pink pitaya (dragon fruit), and its sweetness and tropical flavor come from the fresh pineapple and banana. Unsweetened coconut milk beverage adds a creaminess to this smoothie. It's an incredibly easy 5-ingredient recipe that you can make in less than 5 minutes, so start blending and enjoy!

Dragon fruit is considered a superfood because it’s full of fiber and high in vitamins C, A, E, B1, and B12. It’s also very rich in antioxidants, such as flavonoids, phenolic acid, and betacyanin.

Both red and pink pitaya have more antioxidants than the sweeter yellow dragon fruit, or other red skinned dragon fruit with white flesh. Pink pitaya is also said to improve your gut health by promoting healthy gut bacteria, which positively impacts your gut microbiome. Dragon fruit may also help lower blood sugar and strengthen your immune system! Aside from the delicious tropical flavor, all these wonderfully healthy facts about pink dragon fruit are a great reason to try this smoothie recipe!

How do you ensure the best results from this recipe?

My 3 tips to making this delicious Tropical Dragon Fruit Smoothie (Non-Dairy):

  1. Use high quality, organic ingredients. For the sweetest flavor, fresh pineapple is always best (or you can cut it and freeze it yourself).

  2. Whether you use all frozen fruit, all fresh fruit, or just a couple of frozen fruits, adjust the amount of ice cubes accordingly. Recommendations for ice are in the Notes of Step 1 in the Step by Step Instructions above.

  3. If you want to use frozen bananas, you will need to freeze your bananas ahead of time. To find out an easy way to have frozen bananas on hand all the time, just watch my how to video on the Tips & Tricks page for TIP #5 - How to Store Overly Ripe Bananas.

It’s time to customize and Pimp My Recipe.

Pimp My Recipe:

  • Add Protein: Add ½ cup plain non-fat Greek Yogurt. This will make it creamy and add at least 12 grams of protein.

  • Add More Fiber: To add 1215 mg of omega-3s, and 1.5 grams of additional fiber, add 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed to this smoothie.  I like using Bob’s Red Mill golden flaxseed meal.

  • Make it Sweeter: This smoothie is naturally sweet thanks to the pineapple and banana. If you want it sweeter, add 1 teaspoon (or to taste) of honey. For a vegan option, add 1 teaspoon (or more to taste) of agave nectar or pure maple syrup.

  • Make it More Pink! Just add 1 teaspoon of Pink Pitaya powder. I like using Suncore Foods pink pitaya red dragon fruit powder

  • Make it Without Coconut Milk: Don’t like coconut milk?  Swap out the coconut milk beverage for vanilla unsweetened almond milk.

Footnote: Remember to adjust the amount of ice you are using based on whether your fruit is fresh or frozen.
